Lost your phone? Don’t panic. If it is switched on and connected to the internet, you can probably locate, ring, or lock it in under two minutes.
1. Use Find My Device
On any computer or another phone, go to android.com/find and sign in with the same Google account as your lost phone. You will see its location on a map.
2. Play a Sound
In Find My Device, click “Play sound”. Your phone will ring at full volume for 5 minutes — even if it was on silent. Perfect for phones lost in the sofa.
3. Secure Your Phone Remotely
Click “Secure device” to lock it with your PIN and sign out of your Google account. You can also display a message on the lock screen like “Reward if found — call 09xxxxxxxxx”.
4. Erase It as a Last Resort
If recovery looks hopeless, click “Erase device”. This wipes everything so your data stays safe. Note: after erasing, you can no longer track the phone.
5. Prepare BEFORE You Lose It
- Turn on Location in Settings > Location
- Make sure “Find My Device” is enabled in Settings > Security
- Keep your Google account signed in on the phone
- Write down your IMEI (dial *#06#) and keep it somewhere safe — police and carriers need it for stolen phone reports
6. What If the Phone Is Off?
Find My Device shows the last known location. On newer Pixel and Samsung phones, the offline finding network can still locate a switched-off phone via nearby devices’ Bluetooth.
