How to Download and Install XAPK Files on Android

You found the game you want, but instead of an APK file, you downloaded something ending in .xapk — and tapping it does nothing. Don’t worry: XAPK is just a smarter package format, and installing it is easy once you know the trick.

What Is an XAPK File?

Big games need more than just an APK — they also need large data files (graphics, maps, audio) called OBB files. An XAPK bundles the APK plus its OBB data into one convenient package. One download, everything included.

Android can’t install XAPK files on its own, which is why tapping the file does nothing. You need an installer app — or five minutes and a file manager.

Method 1: Use an XAPK Installer App (Easiest)

1. Install a free XAPK installer app from a source you trust.
2. Open it and grant the storage permission it asks for.
3. The app will automatically scan your phone and list the XAPK files it finds. Tap the one you want.
4. Tap Install and wait — the app handles the APK and OBB placement for you.
5. Once done, open the game from your app drawer.

Method 2: Install Manually With a File Manager

No extra app needed — just a file manager that can open ZIP files (most can):

1. Rename the file from game.xapk to game.zip. (An XAPK is really just a ZIP in disguise.)
2. Extract the ZIP. Inside you’ll find an APK file and an Android folder containing the OBB data.
3. Install the APK first: tap it, allow installs from your file manager if asked, and tap Install.
4. Copy the OBB folder to Internal storage > Android > obb. The path must match exactly, e.g. Android/obb/com.example.game.
5. Now launch the game — it will find its data and start normally.

Troubleshooting

• “App not installed” — the OBB folder name must match the game’s package name exactly. One wrong letter and the game won’t see its data.
• Game asks to download data anyway — the OBB landed in the wrong folder. Double-check the Android/obb path.
• Installer app can’t find the XAPK — move the file to your Download folder and scan again.
• Not enough space — XAPK games are big; make sure you have at least twice the file size free during installation.
